We keep children in their homes by making a rent or mortgage payment when crisis threatens eviction.

Firm Foundations is a group of business people connected across communities who share the desire to help families through short-term crises that threatens to unravel their stability. We support Texas families by covering a rent or mortgage payment — or other essential housing expenses — to help them get through difficult seasons. Because housing instability deeply affects children, especially during a crisis, we work to keep families housed so they can focus on their health, their loved ones, and what truly matters.

Our Beginnings

Firm Foundations was created from a deeply personal understanding of how quickly a family’s stability can be shaken. Having experienced a devastating loss of their own home as children due in part to their father’s health challenges, Marc and Matt Wood began seeing similar struggles repeated in their own communities: responsible and hard-working families pushed to the brink by sudden medical, situational, or personal crises — a cancer diagnosis, a child awaiting a transplant, a parent suddenly unable to work, or a natural disaster.

Through partnerships with nonprofits, schools, hospitals, and community agencies, one gap became evident and impossible to ignore — meaningful rent and especially mortgage assistance is scarce when families need it most.

Firm Foundations exists to fill that gap and help families stay in their homes so a temporary crisis doesn’t become a permanent loss.

Our Beliefs

These basic beliefs of Firm Foundations represent the foundation of our organization and the driving force of our mission to keep families together:

We believe in the one God of the Bible, eternally existing in three persons as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that God created the world and has ultimate authority at all times and in all places.
We believe that all humanity is created in the image of God and therefore has worth and that each and every person is loved by God.
We believe that sin has broken all things, leaving the world in desperate need of salvation. We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and is complete and without error in its original writings. The Bible reveals to us the nature of God, tells His story of salvation for mankind, and is sufficient as our guide to live as disciples of Jesus Christ as we walk in obedience to His commands.

President
Brett is the President of Monteith Abstract & Title Company, Inc, and an instrumental part of launching the Monteith #GivesBack campaign, which has donated over $250,000 to local non-profit organizations across Bell County.
Alyssa Payne

Executive Director
Having worked in both ministry and the mortgage industry, Alyssa helped to organize, establish, and launch Firm Foundations with The Wood Group of Fairway. She also helps organize and coordinate international mission through for The Wood Group.
Marc Wood

Co-Founder
Marc and his brother Matt share leadership responsibility for The Wood Group of Fairway and live by the motto of Faith, Family, Fairway. As The Wood Group grew, they felt a strong calling to establish a non-profit to help individuals and families flourish, thereby strengthening whole communities.
David Spradley

Board Member
David is an Associate Broker with Vista Real Estate and President of Spradley Properties. A lifelong resident of Belton, TX, he has spent many years fundraising for several Christian charitable organizations that provide for various needs in Central Texas.
Leslie Stromenn

Board Member
Leslie and her husband Josh opened PremiER ER & Urgent Care in Temple, Texas, in 2016. She stays connected through Temple Bible Church, a community Bible study group, her work, and volunteering at Foster Love Bell County.
